If you sincerely prayed that prayer, you are a new person!
You may not feel new right away. But over time, as you follow the Lord and walk in the light of His Word, the Bible, you will see the result of His work in your life.
“For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works” (Ephesians 2:10).
Here are some important suggestions to help you walk in God’s LIGHT:
Let God have first place in your life..... “Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you” (1 Peter 5:6-7).
Choose to follow Him in obedience. But when you fall short, be quick to ask for forgiveness and a clean slate. (That’s what God promises when you confess your sins.) Remember that He loves you and wants the best for you.
Indulge in God’s Word—the Bible.... This is the best way to get to know God and His will for your life. “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work” (2 Timothy 3:16-17).
If it’s all new to you, you may want to begin with the Gospel of John. Ask God to give you understanding as you read.
Get involved in a local church.... A church where you can grow in your knowledge of the Bible and enjoy the friendship and support of other Christians.
“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another . . . ” (Hebrews 10:24-25).
Tell the pastor of your new relationship with Christ so that he or she may help you grow in your faith and become a part of the church family.
Have daily times of prayer.... Prayer is talking to God—and He delights in meeting with you!
“Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need” (Hebrews 4:16).
Express your love to God. Ask Him to make you aware of your sins so that you may ask for forgiveness. Ask Him to give you strength to live as you should. Ask Him to teach you and to open your eyes to see His love for you. Thank Him for His work in your life. Tell Him your needs and Believe that He will provide.
Tell others what God has done for you! “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!” (Romans 10:15).
Spread the light.
